"They almost reluctantly suspend b continue on to them, trying to retain their old-world charm and that sometimes means the homes lose out the chance to be retained.

"They are being snapped up by developers for subdivisions or junior couples come in and primarily use the shell as a solid canvas to supplement.

"Developers are now paying a premium for these properties where before they wouldn't, because there are more boyish families using them to extend to make a large family well-informed in on a big block."

North Brighton couple Dean and Vicki Crummey chose to recondition their war home, rather than demolish it after subdividing their corner block.

"We did ruminate over about bulldozing it and building two new ones, but we saw there was potential in it," Mrs Crummey said.
