What is the proper spacing of handrail brackets?

 I will be installing a ramp 8 feet (half-foot pine) on a staircase and bought slices of the mix. My question is: What do you recommend for the spacing between brackets? Should I put one on each pole, each pole of others, or what?

If you are in Australia you can buy them in Bunnings. Humour sure you go to the large Bunnings preserve because they have the space to carry the full distribute of handrail brackets.
I was in Bunnings a couple of days ago and I unavoidable them for myself.
